Female photographers - Evgeniya Strygina

This week, I share with you some new portraits taken for my “Female-Artists” project. This time, posing in front of my camera is the talented photographer Evgeniya Strygina. Originally from Russia, Evgeniya is now based in London. Her background in journalism and her storytelling ability are clearly evident in her photographs. The world, as she captures it, seems stripped of any superficial layers and shown in its essence.

During our session while walking around St. Paul’s Cathedral area, Evgeniya explained to me how her pictures are, and I quote her, “a quest for quiet harmony in our noisy existence.” The minimalism in her work, especially her architectural photography, makes this evident. The soft colours, the presence or absence of the sky in some desolate lands or hyper-modernised, concrete landscapes she captures, are the perfect example of that. The photos we decided to take, against different modern buildings, aimed to draw from that vision.

Still, Evgeniya’s inspiration goes further. Alongside exploring places and their meanings, she delves into the complex notion of home. What is home for us? Is it merely a physical place or an intangible feeling? What deeper significance does belonging carry? This theme of home profoundly resonates with me, as someone who, like Evgeniya, has uprooted from her native country and continues searching for ways to let her cultural roots establish themselves in foreign soil.

I highly encourage you to visit her website at https://www.soul-editor.com/, and browse among her amazing photography projects.
